NBA DFS Guard Picks
C.J. McCollum ($6,600) vs. San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs have been a great matchup to take advantage of all season long, and with injuries piling up as we come to the end of the season, they’re also very short-handed. The Pelicans are also adjusting their rotation due to injury with Brandon Ingram (knee) out for the eighth straight game. In addition, Zion Williamson (finger) is questionable. While Ingram has been out, McCollum has stepped up and been very productive, and he’ll have to carry even more of the offense if Zion is also limited or out.
On Friday’s slate, McCollum has the highest Pts/Sal of all guards with salaries over $6,000 and brings the third-highest ceiling and median projections at the position, even though he only has the 10th-highest salary.
McCollum has scored at least 23 points in all but one of the seven games since Ingram’s injury. During that stretch, he averaged 25.1 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.3 rebounds in 38.6 minutes per game. His usage rate is 24.9% for the season, but it has jumped to 29.8% over those seven games and 33.9% in those seven games with Zion also off the floor.
If Zion plays, McCollum is a great value option with his mid-range salary and elite ceiling. If Zion is out, McCollum becomes almost must-play since he’ll carry even more of the workload in this very favorable matchup at home against the Spurs.
Aaron Wiggins ($3,100) at Indiana Pacers
The Thunder are battling with the Timberwolves and Nuggets for the top seed in the Western Conference with just over a week left in the regular season, but they’ve been hit with some key injuries just as they near the finish line. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (quad) is out and Jalen Williams (ankle) is doubtful for Friday’s game against the Pacers after both stars had to sit out both games of OKC’s back-to-back earlier this week. Without those two high-usage, high-production players, there has been plenty of value from the Thunder, including Wiggins, who was off the fantasy radar for most of the season.
Wiggins has only averaged 15.3 minutes per game in his 72 games this season, but he’s a great play at this rock-bottom salary after stepping up in extra playing time over the last five games. Wiggins has played over 25 minutes in four of his last five games and started three of his last four. He scored double-digit points in four of those contests, averaging 12.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 steals in 25.2 minutes per game over that short sample size.
With his 29.01 minutes projection on Friday against the up-tempo Pacers, Wiggins is a great way to save lots of salary and still get solid production. He has the second-highest Pts/Sal of all guards on OwnersBox, just ahead of his teammate Cason Wallace, who is also a way to go cheap and still get upside. Wiggins is also an option to consider at SuperFlex since he frees up so much salary to spend on superstars in other spots.

NBA DFS Forward/Center Picks
Victor Wembanyama ($9,400) at New Orleans Pelicans
The Spurs shut down Devin Vassell (foot) and Jeremy Sochan (ankle) earlier this week and also ruled out Cedi Osman (ankle) and Dominick Barlow (knee) for Friday’s contest while Keldon Johnson (foot) is questionable. Wembanyama does not appear on the injury report at all, so he should be ready to roll against the Pelicans and could carry a massive workload if San Antonio keeps the game close.
Wemby’s minutes are a little uncertain, but he brings such a high upside that he’s one of the players who is worth paying up for on Friday’s slate. At forward/center, he brings the second-highest median and floor projections and the third-highest ceiling projection. He continues to show his high long-term ceiling with massive stat lines, and he almost always adds in great defensive and hustle stats as well.
Over his 18 games since the All-Star Break, the rookie has averaged 23.0 points, 11.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 4.4 blocks and 1.7 steals in 31.6 minutes per game. He had a 40-point, 20-rebound performance against the Knicks last Friday and 23 points and 15 boards on Tuesday against Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. He missed one of the Spurs’ games against the Pelicans earlier this season but posted double-doubles in their other two meetings.
With all the usage he can handle, Wemby has the potential to go off on any slate. This matchup with the Pelicans should give him another chance to shine, so use your salary savings to get a piece of his sky-high ceiling.
Lamar Stevens ($3,700) vs. Detroit Pistons
The Grizzlies are limping to the finish line of the season in just about every way imaginable. Injuries have totally wiped out their season. In addition to all the players who are already out for the season, Jaren Jackson (quad), Santi Aldama (foot), Brandon Clarke (injury management), and Desmond Bane (back) are out for this game. Luke Kennard (knee) is also doubtful. As a result, the remaining players for Memphis offer good value across the board in their favorable matchup against the Pistons. Stevens has the highest Pts/Sal on the entire slate as he continues to step into a larger role at a low salary.
After playing very limited minutes for the Celtics to start the season, Stevens landed with the Grizz at the NBA Trade Deadline. He jumped right into their thin rotation and has been productive for his new team. Stevens did miss a six-game stretch with an adductor strain but has looked sharp in his five games since returning. He played over 20 minutes in each of those contests, averaging 10.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.2 steals in 22.3 minutes per game. His minutes projection is massive at 38.9 for Friday, indicating he will likely carry a much bigger workload with Aldama, Clarke, and Jackson out on this slate.
Grizzlies Trey Jemison and GG Jackson join Stevens as elite value plays based on Pts/Sal plays at forward/center.
