Best Ball Fantasy Football Quarterback Sleepers
Gardner Minshew, Las Vegas Raiders (ADP QB33, My Rank QB31)
- Gardner Mishew saw his stock shoot up after the draft as the Raiders didn’t use any of their 2024 draft capital on a quarterback
- I thought they were a logical landing spot for Michael Penix, but the Falcons shocked the world by selecting him at pick #8 despite recently signing Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180M deal
- Instead, the Raiders selected tight end Brock Bowers with their first-round pick, who should be able to become one of the top pass-catching tight ends as a rookie
- Minshew needs to hold off 2nd year QB Aidan O’Connell to become the Week 1 starter in 2024, but I agree with the current odds on DraftKings Sportsbook making Minshew a -300 favorite to get the nod when the NFL season kicks off
- Minshew is in the Tier of QBs who we can’t safely project to start 10+ games, but he goes at a time (QB33) where he is worth the dice roll. In Best Ball, it’s ok to take on risk since we are interested in a player’s ceiling and for Minshew that is starting all 17 games this season and you can stack him with Davante Adams/Jakobi Meyers/Brock Bowers
- The same logic applies to Aidan O’Connell at QB35. There is a chance he leapfrogs Minshew to be the starter and start 15+ games this year. Taking the occasional swing on either QB is an aggressive move, but a contrarian Raiders stack could pay off in large-field best ball fantasy football tournaments
Daniel Jones, New York Giants (ADP QB30, My Rank QB23)
- Daniel Jones offers a massive fantasy football ceiling at QB30 considering he carries considerable rushing upside and because the Giants haven’t given up on him quite yet
- They were a team that could have potentially traded up for a quarterback or taken J.J. McCarthy if they were ready to move on from Jones. Instead, they took the top wide receiver on the board in Malik Nabers from LSU
- Jones has dealt with lackluster receiving talent for most of his tenure in New York, but he now has a potential stud in Nabers
- I don’t consider Drew Lock to be a huge threat to his job security and if Jones bounces back with a good season, he could easily start 15+ games barring any injuries
- The bottom line is that Jones offers far too much upside to be going this late in best ball drafts given his rushing ability and the addition of Nabers as a wideout
Will Levis, Tennessee Titans (ADP QB24, My Rank QB22)
- Second-year quarterback Will Levis is a bit of a gamble in the QB24 range, but I think he has enough upside to warrant the occasional flier here
- There’s a good chance the Tennessee Titans will be more pass-heavy in the post-Derrick Henry era and it’ll likely result in a higher passing rate (more TDs) around the goal-line
- He has a solid trio of wide receivers in DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, and Tyler Boyd. Treylon Burks still might break out at some point, but there is less pressure for him to do so now as the no. 4 WR on the depth chart
- At tight end, Levis has Chig Okonkwo who continues to be another potentially explosive receiving target
- We saw Levis flash some nice upside as a rookie with a four-touchdown game and a 327 passing-yard game
- He’s the type of quarterback who has a wide range of outcomes, which makes him even more enticing in best ball fantasy football formats
