How to Bet on Monday’s MLB Slate

After a middling first couple months, one National League team has risen from the ashes and now looks like a team who could make some noise in the playoffs. That team? The Chicago Cubs.

Led by quality pitching and insane offensive output (especially from Cody Bellinger), the Cubs are coming off a series sweep over the Atlanta Braves and have won 15 of their last 19 games. They went from a potential seller at the deadline, to a team with a 58-54 record — just 1.5 games back from the divisional leader, the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Cubs head to The Big Apple on Monday to take on a Mets team with an opposite trajectory — one of the most disappointing teams in professional baseball.

Cubs-Mets Preview

Set aside the fact that the Mets have nothing real to play for anymore (they traded away multiple major players at the deadline including Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, and are 11 games below .500), and that the Cubs are on the brink of potentially winning their division. The Cubs are simply a better baseball team with more top-end talent.

Cody Bellinger (.326 batting average) and Dansby Swanson (17 homers in 98 games) are leading the way for the Cubs’ offense. The supporting cast is strong, too. It’s made up of Nico Hoerner, Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, Christopher Morel, Jeimer Candelario, Yan Gomes and Mike Tauchman. That presents a lineup of solid offensive potential.

The pitching matchup is a slight cause for concern, however. The Mets have the super talented Kodai Senga (3.25 ERA) on the hill while the Cubs have the the aging Drew Smyly (4.71 ERA). But still, with the Cubs’ offense and the fact that they have real stakes tied to this game, I’m picking them all day.

The Bet

Consider using your first bet with FanDuel Sportsbook to back the Cubs on the money line at +102 odds.
